The Ombudsman found that the Corporate Services Committee for the Township of Bonfield did not contravene the open meeting rules under the Municipal Act, 2001 when it reviewed a draft of the Township’s short-term rental by-law and received advice from the Township’s solicitor during a closed meeting. While the exception for litigation or potential litigation did not apply, as any potential litigation was merely speculative, the exception for advice that is subject to solicitor-client privilege did apply, as the Committee received confidential legal advice from the Township’s solicitor.
